This wearable app has an interesting purpose: to determinate emotions.
Emotions are hard to understand sometimes. Many people also have a problem sharing or showing their emotions. This can complicate a conversation. Emotions are also hard to understand for people who suffer from Asperger’s. In order to help them and others, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology decided to make a wearable app.
This wearable app has an interesting purpose: to determinate emotions. Just imagine how simple it would be for us to communicate if we knew exactly what the other person was feeling. The wearable app can make this come true.
This app is not yet ready to be used by the public. The researchers are still adjusting it. They mentioned that their goal is to make this wearable app available for anyone. They believe that this could be a way for people who can’t understand social cues.
In order to make this app the researchers used partially the Samsung Simband. This helped them pick up high-resolution waveforms for things such as blood pressure and heart rate. This wearable app interprets these waveforms and gives them meaning. This way people can see what others feel.
This wearable app looks at the most important things in a conversation. For instance, the app can sense the tone of the conversation and it can detect if a person is sad or mad. The app also uses deep learning in order to be able to figure out the emotions of people.
The researchers mentioned that the app is actually very efficient. Despite the fact that they just developed it, the app is more than 80% accurate. The researchers mentioned that this percentage is great for a new app that is still under development.
The researchers mentioned that privacy is important and that is why the app doesn’t record anything when it is on. It just shows you the emotional state of the person you were talking with. The researchers also mentioned that the app might have some problems when it comes to multi-person conversation.
The wearable app is not ready to detect different tones and voices. This is why researchers still have to improve it. They said that they want to make this app available for any person who has a smartwatch.
What is your opinion about this app? Do you think that it can guess your emotions?
