People are used to keeping their fruits and vegetables in the fridge. However, a new study shows that tomatoes should be kept outside of your fridge if you want them to have flavor. The researchers from the University of Florida discovered that if we keep these vegetables for too long, they will lose their flavor. Moreover, there is nothing we can do to change them back.
The authors of the study made a really interesting comparison. They said that it is like a symphony, without violins. We would still have noise, but it will not be the same. For a tomato to be tasty, there should be more than 30 chemicals.
Researchers put tomatoes for a week in a fridge, at 40 degrees. After that, they took them out and kept them at 68 degrees. They discovered that the vegetables lose most of their chemicals and the taste was never the same. However, those which were stored for only 3 days kept their taste. The advice of the researchers would be to keep the tomatoes out of your fridge or, at least, not to keep them there for more than three days.
Tomatoes are more important that you could think. According to many studies, these fruits are able to prevent cancer. It seems that they are really effective when it comes to prostate cancer. Moreover, tomatoes are good for our eye health because they contain antioxidants which protect the eyes. If you want to have a healthy skin, tomatoes are a good option for your diet. They shouldn’t be absent from a pregnant woman’s diet because they contain chemicals which will protect the baby.
Tomatoes have benefits for those who suffer from heart diseases. It was proved that they can reduce the risk of heart attack or high blood pressure. Of course, you should have a healthy diet. If they are the only healthy food in your diet, it will be difficult for you to prevent diseases.
People are used to putting their vegetables in the fridge. However, a good option would be to buy only the tomatoes you need for three days. This way they will not lose their flavor and you will eat fresh food. Another idea would be to keep the vegetables in a cool room.
