Don’t believe the reports that the long delayed project to launch a full-size replica of the RMS Titanic have sunk to the bottom of the ocean. Get ready to see the real Titanic II, and this is not a movie!
Just like the iconic song from Celine Dion in 1997, this project will “go on and on.”
This is thanks to Australian businessman and politician Clive Palmer. He is behind the controversial effort that was announced in September. Work on recreating the ship had begun again after a financial dispute with the Chinese government stopped the project in 2015.
The new ship will allegedly be an identical copy of the infamous liner, which sank in 1912 following a collision with an iceberg. So that the same fate will not encounter the new boat, Titanic II will apparently be outfitted with plenty of life boats, and will have a welded, not riveted hull. The navigation and radar equipment will be modernized as well.
“The ship will follow the original journey, carrying passengers from Southampton to New York, but she will also circumnavigate the globe, inspiring and enchanting people while attracting unrivaled attention, intrigue and mystery in every port she visits,” said Palmer in a statement.
The maiden voyage will take passengers from Dubai to New York, reports CruiseArabia, and the first sailing is scheduled to take place in 2022.
Blue Star Line says the nine-decked ship will be home to 835 cabins, and will accommodate 2,435 passengers. You’ll be able to buy first, second, and third-class tickets — just like in the original.
Titanic II will be outfitted exactly like the original ship, including the grand staircase that plays a memorable role in James Cameron’s hit movie.
