Texas campsite slayings which occurred during the weekend have prompted the arrest of a man from a neighboring property. A 6-year old child, an elderly man, as well as 4 other people were killed at a travel trailer located on a private property in Anderson County, between Harmony and Tennessee Colony, in Texas.
According to local TV station KYTX, the murdered individuals had been part of two families, and most of them were actually strangers to that rural area situated about an hour’s drive southeast of Dallas. Apparently, they were just camping there for the weekend, after one member of the group had mentioned he owned a land lot there.
The murders occurred on Sunday morning, November 15, and initially first responders discovered just the corpses of a man and a woman, in the camper trailer. Four other males had been initially thought to be missing.
Eventually, on Monday, November 16, it was announced by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office (ASCO) that 6 people had been killed: five males and one female.
While the identities and ages corresponding to three of the victims hasn’t been yet released to the public, the others have been named as Thomas Kamp (the private property’s owner), Hannah Johnson (his girlfriend), and 77-year old Carl Johnson (Hannah’s father).
As local journalists have reported, one member of the group, identified as Cynthia Johnson, has managed to survive the carnage however, after sustaining just some minor injuries, and immediately called 911. That is how authorities were alerted regarding the horrific incidents.
Upon the arrival of law enforcement at the scene of the crimes, William Hudson, aged 33, who lived on the adjacent property, was placed under arrest, after being apprehended at his mother’s residence. He has been charged with one count of murder, and is currently in police custody, on a $2.5 million bond.
It is expected that more charges will soon follow, corresponding to all the victims that have been brutally murdered.
Hudson isn’t related to any of the deceased persons, but he was considered a person of interest in this case, given that four of the victims were eventually retrieved on Monday afternoon by police divers from a pond located right behind his house, on his own property. Moreover, according to police documents, he had one other prior arrest on assault charges, just a few weeks ago.
So far, a motive for the crimes hasn’t been yet established, but according to sheriff Greg Taylor, this is by far the largest mass murder which has ever been reported in Anderson County.
An investigation is currently underway, and Hudson is considered to be the sole suspect for the moment. Several authorities have joined forces in solving these crimes: the Dallas Police Department, the TX Rangers and Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.
While witnesses have heard gunshots in the area during the weekend, law enforcement will also be taking into account the possibility that some of the victims actually met their end after being drowned by their killer.
