Everybody has food delivered at home, whether it is pizza on a Friday night or even groceries that you prefer to get rather than go out and buy them yourself.
This customer preference has also prompted many businesses to implement a food delivery service and the trend seems to be on the rise.
The most recent one among the large restaurant chains was Taco Bell, which announced that they will use DoorDash, the famous delivery service to send their products to hungry customers either at home or at their offices.
While the people who are fond of their Mexican-inspired food will see slightly steeper prices on their Taco Bell delivery menu, the representatives of the company are confident that their customers will chose convenience over a few more dollars and will be more than willing to pay the $3.99 delivery fee for their favorite option.
However, given the fact that so many people prefer to have food delivered at home, health experts are becoming quite worried for Americans’ wellbeing.
This concern roots in the increasing number of obese people, as well as in the statistics showing than only 25 percent of Americans eat the recommended daily intake of fruit and vegetables. All this, combined with a sedentary lifestyle can have disastrous effects on people’s health and lead to many diseases that might shorten their lifespan.
Fast food is unhealthy as it is, with its loads of deep-fried products and excessive sugar. When you have it delivered, you make sure you cut back on the little amount of exercise you would have got if you had chosen to go to the restaurant and get the food yourself.
Moreover, eating in a restaurant should be more than feeding yourself, it should be a social event, during which you could enjoy the company of a friend and take your time to savour your food.
Thus, nothing good can come out of fast food delivery. In fact, all it does is encourage the sedentary lifestyle that Americans are so famous for, and maybe increase the already alarming rate of obesity that now goes as high as 69 percent, according to a report issued by the American Heart Association.
