Experts think that junk food ads are bad for kids.
When it comes to ads, the ones that are the most easily influenced are the children. Now that they have a lot of access to information, children don’t know how to separate the good from the bad. This means that they are going to ask their parents to buy them everything they see on TV or on the ads from their tablet.
WHO (the World Health Organization) has released a report in order to stop children from coming across junk food ads. They want to make the internet a safer place for children by cutting down the levels of ads that might influence them.
The Organization also advises parents to limit the time that children spend on watching TV or playing games on their devices because they might see more ads than they should have. Experts think that junk food ads are bad for kids. First of all junk food is not a healthy choice for anybody, especially for small children and the junk food ads are making kids want that product more.
World Health Organization also mentioned that the governments should make some changes and they shouldn’t allow these ads. They also think that the junk food ads can mislead children into thinking that junk food is a healthy and delicious choice. Once they try them, they might want more. This can be one of the reasons why more and more kids have weight problems like obesity.
“Children’s participation in digital media should not be predicated on receiving digital (high fat, sugar or salt food) advertising, nor should it be predicated on ‘devolving’ consent to parents,” mentioned WHO’s report.
This report wants to show that children shouldn’t be a target for fast food ads and that these ads should have another audience. An audience that knows how often to buy these products. Older people know how to react to ads and they also know what is good and bad for them. Children don’t know these things.
The report showed another interesting and kind of disturbing thing. Some junk food restaurants use their location as Pokemon Go locations so that they can attract more kids to their restaurants. If they end up in one of these places there will be even more chances of buying and eating junk food.
