Samantha Power, the US ambassador to United Nations has defended the federal guidelines which US health authorities have framed for health care workers returning from the Ebola zone of West Africa.
Samantha also had a word of praise for the airlines which are still operating in the region unmindful of the dangers which it might bring to the crew. Speaking on the 21 day quarantine regulation that has been imposed on people returning from West Africa, Samantha observed that the same is being done, keeping the safety of the individual and others at large.
She also praised Moroccan Airways, Air France and Air Brussels. These airlines have not withdrawn from the Ebola affected area despite all others refusing to fly to these countries.
Samantha Power was on a tour of Ebola affected countries in West Africa, including Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. Ebola has turned into a life threatening disease and has claimed over 5,000 lives in these three countries.
Incidentally, Samantha Power too had to undergo some medical tests when she returned to United States. As Samantha had not come in contact with any Ebola patient directly, she was considered as a low risk threat.
She had her temperature taken three times before leaving Sierra Leone and was also checked on her arrival at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.
There is a great shortage of medical supplies in Ebola affected countries and with health care workers shying away from going to these countries; the situation is far from better.
