When it comes to fighting cancer, it does not matter where we are from and if we have major differences. This idea was proved by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre which will fund the new private radiotherapy center in Ireland. The new center will be owned by UPMC and by the Bon Secous Hospitals, Cork. According to the officials, the private center should be opened by 2019.
Moreover, it seems that UPCM has bigger plans. It wants to invest 150 million euros, in five years, in Bon Secours Hospitals all over Ireland.
This is not the first time when UPCM wanted to invest in a new private radiotherapy center. Unfortunately, the plans were for 2009 but the economic crisis made the university wait. However, things seem to work now and the new project will have a new wing, three operating rooms, and intensive care beds. In the early stage, it was also planned a 400-space car park, but recent plans are not saying anything about it.
We still do not know how many patients will get the new services. It seems that this issue will be discussed with the health insurance companies. The new health institution will be private because there was not enough capacity in the public system. There were patients who had to leave the hospital and go to other places to continue their treatment. This is why the new private radiotherapy center could be one of the best options for the cancer patients.
There are millions of people in Ireland who suffer from cancer. This disease has no official treatment. However, if it is discovered in an early stage, there is still hope. Radiotherapy proved to be effective for a lot of patients and they managed to live more or even cure of cancer.
Radiotherapy is not easy. It implies pain during the treatment and there are also side effects. This treatment can damage even the healthy cells of the body. Some patients lost their memory, could not concentrate as they did before or had depression.
However, this is the only chance some patients have. It is your decision, as a patient, if you want to do radiotherapy or not. You have to think about the pros and cons and prepared for a long journey.
