The world was watching as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shared their first kiss as a married couple. The kiss took place on the steps of St. George’s Chapel.
The couple, now known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, emerged from the chapel after a traditional and modern mix of a ceremony. Right after leaving the chapel, they exchanged a short kiss on the grounds of Windsor Castle. And then they descended the stairs hand-in-hand and were whisked off in a horse-drawn carriage.
The couple was married in front of hundreds of guests including both British and American celebrities. Elton John, Oprah Winfrey, Serena Williams and George and Amal Cooney watched the ceremony.
Couples Do Not Typically Kiss In Church of England
Couples do not typically kiss in Church of England wedding ceremonies. But it has been a tradition for them to kiss publicly soon after for the public.
This royal wedding is the culmination of a fairytale romance that began in 2016. The two went on a blind date in London set up by a mutual friend. Meghan then visited Prince Harry during a trip to Botswana later that same year. In October of 2016, rumors started that the couple was dating. They announced their engagement in November of last year. The engagement ring was made from a large Botswana diamond along with two smaller diamonds that belonged to Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.
