A new survey focused on the side effects a nation that promotes gun usage has on its own citizens. The collected data revealed a terrifying image. A poor gun control in U.S. is responsible for nearly 1,300 children who succumbed to death in a year. Another mass of 5,800 kids ends up with non-fatal injuries per year.
The Cases of Minors Killed by Guns Show More Homicides and Suicides than Accidents
The team at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is behind the latest report on the effects of a gun culture on children. The findings discovered that more than one thousand of kids under the age of 17 are dying each year because of a poor gun control.
Unfortunately, these cases are not all just accidents. The agency found in their report published in the journal Pediatrics that the majority of these incidents are planned out. More than half of these cases which is around 53% are homicides while another portion of 38% are suicides. On top of that, the nearer children are to the age of 17, the higher the death and injury rates are.
Authorities Advise Parents to Appeal to Special Programs to Prevent Infant Suicides
The most striking aspect of this study is that children are rarely killed by guns in other developed countries. Only 10% of the total of kids killed by guns takes place outside America. The United States has already lost control over this issue. Deaths caused by firearms represent the third fatal agent among kids aged 1 to 17. At the same time, it is also the second leading cause of death cases that happened due to injuries. Only vehicle accidents can surpass these numbers.
The team behind this paper stated that their work was based on all CDC available data. This places the survey as the most comprehensive study on this issue. Authorities encourage parents to enroll their children into special programs. These groups are professionally prepared to solve stressors that can lead to infant suicides which are issues related to school, relationships, and peers.
