A new study showed that the more people lie the more they have the tendency to do so. The study also showed that no matter what people lie about, the more often they do it, the more their brain accommodates to doing so. This can become a habit if people don’t take control over their actions.
In addition to the fact that lies are coming easier to those who lie a lot, they are also capable of diminishing their emotional response. This is how you can be tricked into believing that what other people say is true. Once a person lies constantly they are able to hide it from other. For instance, a person lies to you for a long period of time and he already knows your reaction and he knows how to act around you.
Scientists discovered that there is a link between what we want to express and what we really say. For example, in our heads, we know that what we are going to say is a lie and despite the fact that we don’t show it, out brain knows about it. This is how researchers noticed when someone lied. They just looked at the brain scan before and after a person lied.
The study was made in order to show how people can get from normal little lies to big important ones. The fact that people lie is a well-known thing, but how do they get “better” at it was the purpose of this study. The findings showed that people who usually lie about little things trigger something in their brain and they get used to telling lies, even bigger ones.
In order to conduct this study, researchers found 80 volunteers and showed them a photo after that they partner them up with other people that were actually hired actors. The partners got the same photo of a jar full of money and they needed to count the money in that jar. The volunteers were then encouraged to tell their partners the truth about the number of pennies because if they both guessed the number of pennies they got the money. After that, the volunteers were put to lie to the partner.
The study showed that people lie more when they feel like it is a better option both for them and other people. The findings also showed that people tended to lie even more once they started.
