Memory capabilities are different from person to person but there are some things that influence them. People believe that there is a difference between the memory capabilities that women have and those of men. It was shown that women might have better memory than men when they are 40 and older.
This study showed that women can outscore same age men when it comes to memory capabilities. Women have better memory capabilities than men, despite the fact that women experience memory loss once they enter menopause. Another problem that women are facing is that they have a greater risk of developing dementia than men.
Despite all of these problems, women manage to have better memory when they are over 40 than men their own age. They outscored men on every memory measure. In order to conduct this study, researchers analyzed 212 women and men that had ages between 45 and 55. The researchers tested their memory capabilities with multiple tasks.
The study found that women have better memory capabilities than men and that these capabilities change over time. For instance, women who were postmenopausal had worse memory scores than premenopausal women. This means that women’s memory is affected by the changes that happen in their bodies. Some of the levels of substances that women normally have in their bodies are declining and that influences their memory.
Once they are postmenopausal women have smaller estradiol levels and those are linked to our memory capabilities. The levels of estradiol are often associated with lower rates of learning and remembering information heard recently.
The levels of estradiol are not connected to memory storage and consolidation so women will maintain these abilities although they are postmenopausal. Despite the fact that women have more risks of developing dementia than men and that they enter menopause which affects them, they still have better memory capabilities than men their own age.
Doctors and researchers are advising women to report if they feel like they have memory problem or if they have brain fog. These two can really affect their memory on the long run so they should be careful because they are more at risk to develop dementia.
