Publix Super Markets Inc. managed to attain public interest due to the fact that it is considered one of the largest companies owned by its present and past employees. Upon their introduction to their new job, employees receive stocks of the company. Thus, it is in their own interest to do their best to turn Publix stores into an epitome of quality. This is not the only noteworthy program in their repertoire. Customers were able to taste a product before buying it with free meat samples available all the time. However, a recent statement of a spokesperson put this program under confusion.
On Tuesday, a publication interpreted the statement of a Publix representative as the end of the meat samples program. The decision will take effect within the Publix supermarkets from the Central and Southwest regions. These will test a different approach that will replace the automatically offers of sliced meats to customers free of charge.
On the other hand, in response to this article, Publix tried to reassure the public. The stores in South Florida that account for almost 1,000 locations are still treating customers with premium service. However, they are no longer receiving free meat samples, but free cheese ones. Maria Brous reported on behalf of Publix that South Florida shouldn’t be affected by the changes implemented in other markets.
Moreover, clients are still entitled to a free slice of meat. First of all, the selected pilot program will make sure everyone gets to taste the cheese of the week. On the other hand, if customers still want to taste the meat products, they can ask the employees for a sample of a product of their choice.
The new program is active in 200 stores in Lakeland, Bradenton, the Tampa Bay area, Naples, Fort Myers, Kissimmee, Spring Hill, and Sarasota. At the moment, the chain of supermarkets has a total of 1,143 locations including the ones from South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama. The plan for this year is to enter the state of Virginia as well.
The news didn’t have a positive effect among Publix customers. Some critics are of the opinion that the company is trying to estrange itself from an expensive strategy to advertise their products. On the other hand, if they decide to shut down the program altogether, they might remain with no competitive advantage. Until management clarifies the direction of the company, customers can still ask for meat samples in any Publix store.
