Google has just turned into a more kid friendly mobile medium.
Google has just become a favorite mobile browser for parents and their little ones. From now on, families can benefit of Family Link, which is the Google version of parental control software. Parents don’t have to worry anymore about the content that their children might get exposed to once they go online. With the new feature, the mobile browser has just become a more kid friendly mobile medium.
The Kid Friendly Mobile Medium Is Assured By a Hybrid System
As of Wednesday, Google enabled parents to offer a safe mobile environment for their children. They can allow kids to create a Google account for users. However, that’s not all. They can activate several useful parental controls. These can keep track of kids’ screen time, enable device to shut down, choose a list of limited applications for children to use, and many others.
Other mobile device providers such as Amazon and Apple have their own parental control software. However, the new one from Google is different. It is actually a hybrid system between monitoring software and parental control. Usually, parents used to download third-party apps for these two tasks that enabled them to configure settings.
To unlock the benefits of a more kid friendly mobile medium, both parents and child have to use a more recent version of Android such as KitKat 4.4 or higher. Google specified that the app is not yet available for iOS. Afterward, parents can download the Family Link app. From here, users can create the Google account for their kids. This software is intended for kids aged 13 or younger.
Family Link Offers Freedom of Personalization
Only after parents set up the account can kids use the credentials for their own mobile gadgets. As soon as they log in, their activity is registered. This way, parents get to see how much time their kids spend on which app on a weekly or monthly basis via reports. Moreover, they can personalize the account with their own set of rules. Moms and dads can decide the beneficial interval of time kids spend on a smartphone. Moreover, they can enable a remote locking feature to make smartphones inactive for a certain period of time. Finally, parents get to decide which apps their kids are allowed to download.
On the other hand, Google didn’t manage to fix the main gap in the parental control software. The company doesn’t offer guidance on which apps parents should choose for their kids. It is up to them to decide this aspect. On the other hand, parents gain access to Google’s products through the new app. This way, they can configure Google Search and Chrome browser so as any adult content to be out of reach for their family.
