The verification process bears a striking resemblence to the process used to verify your mobile bank account.
In order to stay one step ahead of wrongdoers, Instagram announced that it has already introduced a new security protocol. The clever boys and girls working on the popular social media platform said that the added feature is free and not mandatory. Instagram introduced a two-step authentication process which requires the presence of a valid phone number.
Lately, Instagram has made a radical decision in the area of internet security. Prompted by the ever-increasing number of cybernetic attacks, Instagram decided that it’s high time to wheel in a much-needed security patch. And so, the popular social media platform has decided to employ the same security process that is currently used to access a mobile bank account.
So, how will the user be able to access his or hers profile using the new login method? It’s pretty easy, but it requires the presence of a valid phone number. Once the new security patch is in place, the user will be prompted to enter a valid phone number.
After the user inputs the magical phone number, the platform will automatically send a text message to the number previously provided by the user. This message will contain a verification code which you will need in order to complete the log in process.
Refresh the page and press log in again. In the first step of the login process, you will be required to introduce the username and password. Nothing too fancy. If the user and pass were introduced correctly, Instagram will lead you to another page where it will say that the system sent a text message containing the security code. Check your phone for the message. Once you receive it, input the security code into the appropriate field and you’re good to go.
Instagram introduced a two-step authentication process in order to discourage future cyber thefts. Moreover, the security update is not mandatory. This means that you can always switch it off, if the process takes too long or if it annoys you.
To do that, head on over to Settings and under security you should see something like “two-step authentication”. Well, it seems that Instagram had good reasons to take this step. It would seem that recently, the popular social media platform reported that over 400 million users have downloaded and used the application.
Moreover, over 40 million pictures and video clips are uploaded on the platform each day. So, it’s a good idea to make an effort in providing good and sound security policies. Also, it would seem that Instagram actually managed to overcome Twitter and is not rivaling with Facebook.
