From now on, World of Warcraft players will be able to exchange their gold for game items from other Blizzard games.
Blizzard Entertainment Inc. is now more than ever turning to intricate strategies regarding both in-game and real financial transactions. While some projects failed to attain their projected potential which is the case for Diablo III with its recent auction house based on real currency, there are other implemented updates that players are looking forward to. Hearthstone regained its popularity with new premium card packs while Overwatch received a refreshing feature with loot boxes. Based on the success of these implementations, Blizzard Entertainment is going to allow players to purchase game items from Overwatch and Hearthstone with World of Warcraft tokens.
World of Warcraft players has recently got a boost for their daily gameplay in the form of premium tokens. In exchange for a $15 transactions, they can receive in-game gold through their marketplace so that they can boost their bank deposits more easily. As of today, players can cross the borders of games and interchange in-game currency between World of Warcraft and other Blizzard games like Overwatch and Hearthstone.
This means that the $15 premium tokens that players purchase in the universe of World of Warcraft will wield power in other Blizzard worlds as well. This is the first entertainment system that lets players exchange in-game money for out-game currency. This means that players that have succeeded to raise large amounts of treasures in World of Warcraft can use the fruits of their labor for other games as well. They can purchase other game items such as loot boxes from Overwatch and also special cards from Hearthstone.
This decision will definitely come to the benefit of Word of Warcraft players that have a lot of gold in their bank accounts that sits around for a while now. The terms of this new kind of transactions are also protecting the in-game economy from an eventual collapse. This is because it is not the World of Warcraft gold that suffers the consequences, but the premium Tokens that players can purchase with real money only.
However, the new direction will not be without minor consequences. Because of a post-announcement, the premium tokens have been already sold out within an hour. Thus, they will suffer scarcity in the upcoming weeks which will lead to skyrocketing prices. The move will nonetheless be a new source of income for Blizzard. The players will have to pay a fee of $20 for their Tokens. If they want to exchange them with game items from other Blizzard universes, they will also have to pay a $15 subscription or a $15 for Blizzard currency. As players can get new items with the extra transactions, both parties are victorious.
