Facebook is currently testing its new function, named Photo Magic, which can identify friends’ facial features the users’ photos and ask them whether they want to share their pictures with the individuals recognized in these images, through Messenger. This recent function would be a blessing, especially for people who have many active friends and who frequently share numerous photos, without having them to manually tag each of these images.
The company’s officials confirmed this new information on Facebook’s website earlier this week, mentioning that this is an important step, which allows people to build better social connections in their personal circles. It is one of the social platform’s future functions that its developers are really excited about, since it is still too challenging for users to share images with all their friends and get all the pictures they are in.
Messenger users currently send almost 10 billion images monthly, and this amount is increasing quicker than the total rate of texting. This made Facebook to create new ways to improve picture sharing on its platform and Photo Magic sends people notices when it identifies their friends in the multitude of photos appearing in the users’ posts. The option will also be released on iOS in the weeks to come and it is said to arrive in many more world regions at the beginning of 2016.
The function, which applies a similar facial identification program as the one used for picture tagging and friend recommendations on Facebook, is now available in beta version for Australian users starting these days. If all initial tests go well, the social networks’ specialists want the function to be also offered to people in the United States as soon as possible.
Facebook customers who do not like to be recognized with this feature can choose to be excluded from it by accessing their own timeline and its configurations and deactivating the tag suggestions.
The company has been testing new options for its over 650 million Messenger clients to interact with each other through this free service. Latest upgrades include the possibility to contact companies with messaging demands, this being a new function that specialists say that it will help users to contact they want, while also providing individuals more privacy setting for the information they agree to send or receive.
