The Democratic National Committee filed a lawsuit recently against the Russian government, Donald Trump’s campaign, and WikiLeaks, alleging they coordinated to disrupt the 2016 campaign. This is not without historical precedent, not long after Nixon began his Watergate scheme and cover-up, the DNC launched a civil suit against the former Republican president. The judge in the present DNC case is actually a former Watergate prosecutor.
It did not take long for President Trump to respond to this lawsuit. Trump said:
“Just heard the Campaign was sued by the Obstructionist Democrats. This can be good news in that we will now counter for the DNC Server that they refused to give to the FBI, the Debbie Wasserman Schultz Servers and Documents held by the Pakistani mystery man and Clinton Emails.”
Many people are now focused on Trump’s words, “we will now counter.”
Over the weekend, Trump added, “So funny, the Democrats have sued the Republicans for Winning. Now he R’s counter and force them to turn over a treasure trove of material, including Servers and Emails!”
What Trump seems to be trying to say is that he and his party will file a counter-suit which will lead to a “treasure trove” of materials for the GOP, all of which Trump considers “funny.”
The president has threatened similar lawsuits in the past. He vowed to file suits against the women who accused him of sexual misconduct. He threatened to file a suit against the publisher of “Fire and Fury,” and another against CBS News over the Stormy Daniels interview. These threats never materialized.
Will this time be different? Will Trump counter sue the DNC and find a “treasure trove?”
