Even if many parents are careful about providing to their kids an allergen when they show a sensitivity to certain elements, a new research has shown that just because one child is sensitive to something this does not mean that siblings have the same allergenic reaction.
A food allergic reaction is an unusual reaction to food. Its symptoms can go from mild to serious problems. They can include itching, inflammation of the mouth, throwing up, diarrhea, cities, trouble breathing or low heart pressure. This usually happens within seconds to a few hours of reaction. When these symptoms are serious, it is called anaphylaxis; however, food intolerance and poisoning are different medical conditions.
Scientists in this new research, detailed at the yearly conference of the United States’ immunologists, said that while only over 50 percent of kids show various types of sensitivity to elements their brothers and sisters are allergic to, the misdiagnosis of a sensitive reaction could have adverse repercussions. Food allergies can include stomach pain or vomiting, wheezing, hives, tightness of the patient’s throat and being weak for a prolonged time.
The danger of food allergies in one of the siblings, based on the existence of an allergic reaction in the other, has never been truly clear. This recognized threat is a normal reason to search for professional screening before prescribing a top-risk drug to both siblings. But examining children before administering high-risk allergens is not recommended by specialists. Food allergy examination performs badly in terms of estimating future threats in kids who have never consumed those foods before. This study revealed that testing must be restricted in order to help validate a medical analysis, rather than being the only predictor to establish a final diagnosis.
The specialists have worked with more than 1,000 kids who have a brother or sister with a recorded food allergy. Of these children, over half of them had at least one food sensitivity, but only 15% had an actual allergy to foods. Allergies were diagnosed by using clinical backgrounds of the kids to observe if they had previously an allergenic reaction to food, besides particular blood tests.
