Fat was the bad guy in the food industry in previous years, but now cutting down sugar is easily the next health problem ready to take the top place. As percentages of sugar-related problems like diabetic affections, being overweight and cardiovascular illnesses go up, many professionals believe that when people in America got rid of food rich in fats, they basically replaced them with sugar meals in all imaginable forms.
But showing that the increase of chronic affections is actually linked to larger glucose intake is a hard task for doctors. US scientists have repeatedly published nutritional guides and analysis dealing with the problems of sugar’s negative effective on the human body and now want better solutions for this health issue. Now, in a document released this week, some specialists think that they have found definitive proof that sugar is indeed a toxic factor, according to them.
In any lab analysis, the amounts of glucose that researchers measure are quite large: they hope to see the exact impact on the human organism and, based on their tests, they gather only immediate results and do not have the necessary time to analyze the more constant effects that may appear. And in tests where individuals decrease the quantity of sugar they consume, for example, those individuals end up having less calories overall, so it is hard to know if these changes are caused by the elimination of glucose or the reduction in total calorie consumption.
American scientists now think that they have created the hard and quick information that sugar is harmful regardless of the total number of calories and regardless of weight. Their assurance comes from an original research, described in US medical journals, of more than 40 kids with ages between 10 and 18. Experts gathered specific meals surveys from each one of the teenagers to have an idea of the regular amount of calorie consumption they intake every day.
Then they developed a unique menu for every one of these children for a few weeks that and the same number of calories as they were normally eating. The single difference in this brief eating plan was that the majority of sugar calories eaten by the kids were coming from starchy foods, while the total number of calories was the same. The youngsters weighed themselves every day, and when they were reducing their body weight, they were advised to consume more of the offered meals to be able to keep their weight at the same level throughout the research.
Everything was improved and some of these kids went from having insulin resistance, a precursor condition of various diabetic affections, in which their levels of blood insulin could not keep up with the speed of breaking down glucose that is permanently coming from the food rich in sugars. After these weeks of having their overall amount of sugar decreased to 10% of calorie consumption, kids showed significant improvements for all physical parameters. Their blood sugar was reduced to only half of the initial level, along with the general level of insulin in the organism.
