Prison authorities have confirmed that John Modie was not present during Sunday’s head count.
The Police Department from Nelsonville, Ohio, is presently combing the area around the Southeast Correctional Facility in search for an escaped murderer. Inmate John Modie, a convicted murderer, has somehow eluded authorities and escaped from the correctional facility. The prison reported his flight after Modie was absent from the head count which took place on Sunday evening at 11:00 p.m.
Nelsonville’s Police Department is currently on the lookout for a dangerous criminal that escaped from the Southeast Correctional Facility. During Sunday’s head count, John Modie, a 58-year-old inmate, condemned for murder in May 2013, was not present.
After conducting a search of the prison and the vicinity, the authorities were not able to find Modie. Jason Wallace, the acting chief of Nelsonville’s Police Department did not answer any questions regarding Modie’s escape.
Further attempts to contact Wallace by phone were also unsuccessful since the police commissioner is currently working with the prison’s warden to discover how the convict managed to escape.
John Modie was found guilty as charged by a Court of Law in May 2013, and was condemned to serve and 18-to-life sentence.
Jarrod Robinson, a spokesman for the Southeast Correctional Facility, declared that the prison confirmed that John Modie escaped after the inmate failed to report for the evening head count. Authorities are currently combing the area to find Modie.
Although his exact whereabouts are currently unknown, both the prison representatives and the local police have reason to believe that the fugitive might have sought the help of his family, who is now living in Washington County.
John Modie was convicted of murder in Cuyahoga County and between his incarceration and his escape, he has been a model convict.
The authorities from Nelsonville posted a recent photo of the prisoner along with a warning. If someone spots the convict, they should immediately notify the police via the emergency line. No steps should be taken to immobilize the convict. The police declared that Modie is very dangerous and probably armed.
Quoting from the department’s description, John Modie, the convict who escaped from Nelsonville’s prison, has height 6 feet 4, weight around 230 and has gray hair and mustache. The last time he was seen, the convict was dressed in prison clothes: a blue hoodie, blue pants and a sweatshirt.
After hearing about Modie’s escape, the local Hocking College posted on its official Facebook page that the school will be closed down until the authorities manage to apprehend the dangerous convict.
