The intake of coffee has always remained dubious for the health experts. But a new study has revealed a major benefit of this beverage which is almost loved by everyone.
According to the scientists, coffee drinking helps in lowering the risk of endometrial cancer in women.
Endometrial cancer is a type of cancer in women which affects the lining of their uterus.
The study, which was conducted by the researchers at the Imperial College London in England, concluded the findings after analysing two sets of data that recorded the eating habits of 456,000 women.
During the study, the researchers found that women who consumed roughly four cups of coffee a day lowered their chances or risk of developing the endometrial cancer by 18 percent.
Study author Melissa Merritt said, “We were not surprised by the results that a high versus low intake of coffee was associated with a reduced risk for endometrial cancer, as they were consistent with what has been observed in previous studies.”
For the study, the team of researchers studied several aspects of dietary intake of women. During this close analysis of diets, coffee was found to be the only thing in the whole diet that had a significant effect on lowering the risk of endometrial cancer.
While talking about the possible cause for this cancer risk lowering effect, the researchers suggested it could be because the beverage helps in reduction of estrogen levels in a woman’s body.
The findings of study were published online in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention.
