Coalition partners met in Kuwait City on Monday to work on strategies on how to fight online propaganda being propagated by Islamic State. Retired US general John Allen while opening the talks said Islamic State was promoting hatred online and this needs to be countered aggressively.
John Allen is the coordinator of US led campaign against Islamic States and met representative of other countries involved in this campaign. These included representatives from Britain, Egypt, Bahrain, Iraq, France, Lebanon, Jordon, Qatar, Oman, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
It is noteworthy that Islamic State has already seized large areas of Iraq and Syria and has been posting propaganda videos online frequently. Some of these videos are brutal in nature and show on camera beheading. These include the beheading of two British air workers and two US journalists.
Islamic State has among its cadres some highly educated individuals and maintains a strong presence on social media. This has become a vital tool for Islamic State when it comes to attracting cadres to its fold.
United States has been alarmed owing to increasing number of European and Americans being attracted to Islamic States fold. This can be a cause of concern for United States in the long run as these terrorists can cause large scale violence in US and other European Counties.
It is in the light of these developments that efforts are being made to strengthen the online presence of Coalition forces, so as to counter the propaganda being done by Islamic States.
