Cersei Lannister proved to be a woman of many faces and capacities. Now that her family was decimated and death took away all her three children, she sees the Iron Throne as the last reminiscence of a successful life. Therefore, it wouldn’t be surprising for her to lie about a fake pregnancy. Cersei works best with schemes and strategies to reach her goals. So, how else could she keep Jaime close to her than to resort to women’s old method to entrap their beloved next to them?
An Old Prophecy Is Giving Away the Fake Pregnancy
Cersei Lannister in Game of Thrones portrays the evil queen that rules the kingdom with an iron fist, propaganda, and schemes. Now that she stands in the Iron Throne she feels no qualms of conscience to make her amorous relationship with her brother public. More than that, she is willing to make her pregnancy public and announce Jaime as the father of her child.
However, there are suspicions for a fake pregnancy. It all starts from one of the few flashbacks in the TV show. A young Cersei is visiting a witch eager to find out what destiny has in store for her. Maggy the Frog pleases her, yet the truth is not always as pleasant as she wants it to be.
Therefore, the witch tells Cersei that she is going to marry the king and not the prince, lose in the face of a beautiful queen, and live to hear about the death of all her three children. Much of the prophecy became true. Cersei believed she would be the wife of Rhaegar Targaryen.
Instead, she married King Robert Baratheon. She wasted energy eliminating Margery. In the meantime, the true beautiful queen that would defeat her was free and building her army of dragons, Unsullied, and Dothraki.
However, the prophecy says nothing about a fourth child of Cersei. Instead, the books reveal a fourth premonition.
“And when your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you.”
The Prophecy in the Book Indicated that Cersei’s Little Brother Would Bring Her Death
In High Valyrian, the word of ‘valonqar’ stands for ‘little brother.’ As a consequence, Cersei has another reason to desire the death of Tyrion. Besides killing her father, she suspects him of being the murderer of her son and the death of her as well according to the prophecy.
However, she might be mistaken about the witch’s premonition once more. That’s because she has a second little brother, Jaime. Even though they are twins, Jaime came seconds after her sister. As a witness to his sister’s madness, the King Slayer might repeat his destiny and end another ruthless leader in a bloody way.
