A man who has been pretending to be an oncologist who uses alternative medicine to treat several forms of cancer has been recently arrested.
Vincent Gammill is a 69-year-old man who lives in El Cerrito, California and calls himself a doctor. He has a website called “Natural Oncology Institute”, where cancer people can ask for help if they feel chemotherapy doesn’t work anymore.
He promises to cure cancer by using alternative medicine to convince people to ask for his services. Unfortunately this is all a lie that was recently uncovered.
The one who unmasked him was Fern, a 49-year-olf woman who lives in Thousand Oaks, California. She suffers from breast cancer, and she decided to turn to alternative medicine because chemotherapy did not have any results and the tumor was spreading to other parts of her body.
She found Gammill’s website and decided to pay a visit to his “Natural Oncology Institute”. Gammill kept her there for three days for treatment and charged her $ 2,000. The woman was skeptical from the very beginning and did not trust the man when he sold her a mixture of drugs that gave her a burning sensation.
Before leaving, the “oncologist” gave her bags of dirt, expired prescriptions, questionable vials of liquid to ingest and empty capsules.
When she got back home, she notified the authorities that Gammill might be a fake doctor. The police conducted an investigation and it was soon revealed that the “guru” of alternative medicine had not completed any medical schools and did not have a license to practice medicine.
Moreover, they found over 25,000 doses of prescription medication, some of which were expired or quite harmful, according to a statement released by Detective Robert Davidson from Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
The fake doctor was arrested for practicing medicine without a license and giving away medicine. He was booked into the Contra Costa jail but was released on bail. He is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on August ,31.
The investigation is still on, as it remains to be seen how many other people have been fooled by Vincent Gammill.
