Researchers used data from 2 700 people, between 45 and 84 years old. They were asked about their calcium diet and supplements. The participants also made two CT scans, one when the study began and the other ten years later. Researchers wanted to find out if any heart diseases developed due to calcium. There were five groups, depending on how much calcium every person has taken during this period of time.
The results showed that people who took calcium supplements were 22 percent more likely to develop heart diseases than those who took the calcium from their diet. Researchers think that if a person consumes too many calcium supplements, her blood will be affected. Our bodies are able to make the difference between natural sources and medication.
However, we are expecting more research in the future regarding this matter. Scientists have only found a connection between calcium supplements and heart diseases. They were not able to prove that those pills are responsible for our health issues. Moreover, they are not sure if the participants remembered all the time to take the calcium.
However, there were studies in the past which proved the same thing. It seems that high amounts of calcium supplements can really affect us. It is better to have a healthy diet than to take a lot of pills, which side-effects are sometimes unknown.

Studies have proved that soybeans and soymilk are also containing calcium. However, it is better to check the label because not all the soymilk has calcium.
