Although the company is most famous for its online store site, Amazon runs a variety of other services, like computing and server tools, that can be used by websites on the Internet.
Amazon’s plan to release the new email service called WorkMail, which can be used with Microsoft Outlook and several other email companies, is part of the overall strategy of spreading and increasing the business palette.
According to Amazon, the user will be charged $4 monthly for each inbox. This will allow users to have a 50GB storage space.
Amazon stated that companies can pay $6 per user and receive the WorkDocs bundle included in the price. WorkDocs competes with Google’s Docs and some believe this is another attempt to move Amazon to a more office oriented business.
Regarding the security of the new Amazon email service, the email will be encrypted and only the company will have access to it.
The companies can also specify if an email should be stored in certain countries, in order to ensure the account’s privacy and keep the messages out of reach from intelligence agencies.
According to Amazon, the companies can sign up and try the new email service for a 30-day trial period. This included up to 25 users per company.
The new Amazon email service WorkMail will enable users to send and receive emails, manage their contact lists, share calendars and book resources by using the same email applications they usually do, like Google Apps or Microsoft Outlook.
Amazon’s new service aims at corporate user that already pay for other email services like Microsoft’s Outlook.
Amazon recently stated that the new service is compatible with Outlook and its customers can integrate WorkMail with their corporate directory, can choose encryption keys and select the location where they want the data to be. The users only have to pay for the mailbox they created.
Peter De Santis, vice president of Amazon Webs Services, pointed out that the main reason behind Amazon WorkMail was to help businesses “achieve agility and cost savings.”
