German sportswear company, Adidas has developed a concept shoe made out of ocean waste, in order to reduce pollution and raise awareness towards the issue.
The concept shoe looks absolutely amazing and it has the potential to become very popular among snicker lovers. The shoe is turquoise and white, two colors that people can easily associate with the ocean. It is made out of knitted gill nets, that have been retrieved from the oceans, in order to put the polluting material to good use.
Adidas has worked alongside Parley for the Oceans, which is an ocean conservation group. It was actually one of the group’s partners, an organization named Sea Shepherd that has managed to collect the illegal gill nets from the oceans, along with all kinds of polluting material, such as plastic, that kills off hundreds of thousands of marine animals every year with its presence.
“It’s a fishing net that was spanning the bottom of the sea like a wall, and killing pretty much every fish passing by,” said Cyrill Gutsch, the founder of Parley for the Oceans in an interview with Fast Coexist. “They confiscated this net, and we’re bringing it back to life.”
Adidas has made its concept shoe a true symbol of change, a model worthy of being followed. Aside from using ocean waste and illegal gill nets as the materials for its new snickers, Adidas has developed a knitted production process, that significantly reduces the waste associated with shoe making, because the manufacturers can use only as much material as they need.
The Adidas Ocean concept shoes have not received a formal name just yet, but they will get one soon enough. They are expected to make it into Adidas stores by the end of the year and they have a very promising future in front of them, because their story makes for a good deed, a good example and a good advertising campaign.
Furthermore, the sneakers are extremely beautiful and they are bound to become the it item of the sports world after their formal release this year. It remains to be seen how the new Adidas concept shoes will do on the market, but they have all the chances of becoming an instant success.
