A gay man claims that he was denied access to a Gay Pride Parade in Charlotte, North Carolina, for being a Trump supporter. Brian Talbert whose car bears a ‘Not a Liberal’ bumper sticker and a Trump-Pence sign claims he is being discriminated against for being a Trump voter.
“I’m very proud of my country, proud of my president, and was once proud of my community,”
Talbert told reporters.
He added that he doesn’t regret his vote and he is very proud of it. He promised to elect Trump again if he had the occasion. “I’m proud of my president,” the man reiterated. His message to the LGBT community is to not “vilify’ him for his political views.
The gay Trump supporter, who is part of the “Gays for Trump” organization, claims that he and another gay friend that also happens to back the president received a negative response from Charlotte Pride when they wanted to participate in the annual parade.
Man’s Application Got Rejected
Talbert said that he and his friend wanted to be energetic and prove to other LGBT members that Gays for Trump were not racists or bigoted as the media often portrays the average Trump supporter. The group wanted to demonstrate that they can be gay and still love their president and their country.
Talbert said the pride parade organizers rejected his and his friend’s application without explanation. He underlined that a group who seeks tolerance and acceptance should not “sit back” and get judgmental for him exercising his democratic right to choose whomever leader he wants to to run the country. The man labeled Charlotte Pride as being hypocritical.
In a lengthy statement, the group said they denied access to the parade to the two men because they do not “reflect the mission, vision, and values” of the group. Charlotte Pride added that they reserve the right to decline future similar applications for the same reasons.
