The network provider AT&T started its first tests to analyze the capability of its 5G service. Their announcement revealed that there would be an initial trial this week which is actually the first of its kind. The company will use the latest technology that comprises of millimeter wave (mmWave). This is the main source of energy that will bring the 5G network to life.
To make this ambitious project a reality, the network provider partnered with Intel to successfully launch the first 5G service trial for their customers. This test will mark the first step of the project out of the labs. The Senior Vice President of Networking Product Manager, namely Rick Hubbard, stated that this trial would demonstrate how this technology behaves in a business environment. Such a professional medium implies the presence of several other devices and signals. The test will measure how well the service will work on a network full of different devices.
The company will set a bandwidth of 1 Gbps for this project. Within this space, there are going to perform several use cases such as VPN, Internet connection, 4k video streams, and Unified Communications. AT&T also declares that their 5G service will run on 15GHz and 28 GHz spectrum bands. This way, the researchers are going to record the capacity of outdoor-to-indoor millimeter wave coverage.
Intel’s general manager, Rob Topop, is excited about this new project that will bring real value for both the companies and their clients. To his point of view, the trial will also surprise the degree to which their new project is different from similar products already on the market.
The reason why this first attempt will focus on the feasibility of a 4k video stream also is the latest product of the AT&T Company. They recently launched DirecTV Now which is a mobile video streaming product. This is one of the most successful services of its kind in the industry.
However, time is ticking for the AT&T Company. Its major competitors such as Verizon, T-Mobile, C Spire or U.S. Cellular are also investigating the benefits of the 5G technology. There is no official statement coming from Topol regarding a possible launching date. However, the Intel help has high chances to play a crucial role in the development of their 5G service.
One thing is for sure. Once the mmWave technology receives a solid and viable structure, mobile services will step into a new technological dimension. The 4K gaming experience will benefit the most from this upgrade together with VPN services.
