YouTube will launch a entirely new channel, called YouTube Newswire, that will offer raw breaking news 24/7.
YouTube is the largest and best known video-based website available on the internet. Now, it aims to extend its horizons in a very big way, worthy of its reputation. Only a week after announcing its gaming website, called YouTube Gaming, that aims to broadcast all the game-related videos that any passionate gamer out there wants to see, the video mogul is taking the news platform by storm as well, with YouTube Newswire.
The channel will feature amateur footage, that people take with their cellphones directly from the scene of an event that is featured in the news. It will have a large team that will focus on filtering all of these videos, that will determine which ones are worthy of public display and which are not. Then, the videos will be separated by story, so that the users can get the freshest news from people who witnessed the events.
This type of news channel has been a long time coming, as filming day to day events, especially those that are out of the ordinary has become integrated into the normal conduct of society. As the technology of filming has become so widely available among smartphone users, the existing video database has reached gigantic proportions.
One one hand, this type of raw footage can represent the fastest means of connecting the users to the latest events and on the other hand, it can present a truthful standpoints on the matter, as it comes from people who are on the spot.
These videos have been posted on YouTube for quite a few years now, but in a rather chaotic manner, that has made it rather complicated for this footage to be seen by the large audience. A user had to subscribe to the channel of the person providing the video, in order to see it as the story broke out. Otherwise, if would have gotten available to them when it had reached a certain number of views.
And so came Storyful, that has collaborated with YouTube in order to get these amateur videos, among other social media platforms. The video curator hub has been the first service to centralize these videos, verify their authenticity and their accuracy levels, and then broadcast them on a wide spectrum of news stories.
Therefore, it does not come as a surprise that these two companies are collaborating in the YouTube Newswire program. Together, they have the capacity of providing an entirely new type of journalism, that offers a more up close and personal approach on providing news to the audience.
With its upcoming endeavors to optimize and put order into how and where the videos are added by its users, YouTube stands to gain a much more specialized audience in the future, that will make its popularity get even bigger than it is today.
