The death of a 9-month-old baby from Florida who was left unattended in a vehicle on a hot day, followed by the death of another 22-month-old boy from Georgia, under the same circumstances, encouraged producers to do more to avoid such situations.
Walmart announced that they will expand their baby segment with a brand new addition: a car seat that alarms drivers whenever they leave the baby inside the car.
The Evenflo Advanced Embrace DLX Infant Car Seat is equipped with SensorSafe technology, according to Wired editor Jason Tanz, who talked about the new product.
“There is a dongle that you plug into the dataport on your dashboard, this is what your mechanic uses, you know, every time you bring it for a diagnostic, there is a censor in this clip that attaches over the baby’s chest and basically it will tell when the car is running,” he said.
Once you’ve turned off the car, an alarm will start if the baby’s buckle is still on. This is its way of letting you know you shouldn’t forget about the child.
Tanz explained all this during his talk to Savannah Guthrie on Today. He also attempted to give a demonstration of how the chair works. However, the device did not seem to be functioning properly, maybe due to the fact that the doors of the vehicle were still open.
What is the probability of forgetting about your baby and leave him or her in the car?, one might wonder. You will be surprised to find out that Department of Meteorology & Climate Science of San Jose University listed 10 deaths related to heatstroke of children left in the car this year. In 2014, there were 31 deaths and it is estimated that there are 37 such cases every year, on average.
This doesn’t necessarily mean that the parents or caretakers who do that are horrible people who don’t deserve to be alive. Even if they might be regarded as irresponsible, there are sometimes circumstances that might lead to that, according to Tanz.
The new chair will be available in Walmart stores and will cost $ 149.88. Walmart announced that the chair is not the only new baby-product that will become available in August, as they are planning to considerably expand this department thanks to the new baby-boom all over the United States.
