The leader of the free world likes to carry cash in his back pocket. President Donald trump said on Wednesday that he likes to carry cash just in case he needs to leave a tip with someone. He made this comment after he was shown in a photo with a $20 bill that was hanging out of his back pocket.
The president was asked about the photo, which was taken by Tom Brenner of Reuters, during a conversation with reporters on board Air Force One. The president and those in the media were flying back to Washington, D.C. after a three-day trip out west.
Trump confirmed he carries cash in his back pocket before pulling out a wad of bills to show reporters.
“I don’t carry a wallet because I haven’t had to use a credit card in a long time,” Trump said with a smile. “I do like leaving tips to the hotel. I like to carry a little something. I like to give tips to the hotel. I’m telling you, maybe a president’s not supposed to do it, but I like to leave a tip for the hotel, et cetera, et cetera.”
Trump appeared amused by the photo, adding that he’d “like a piece of that picture.”
Tom Brenner posted this message on his Twitter account: “Money is seen in the back pocket of @realDonaldTrump as he boards Air Force One in Mountain View, California.”

The president returned to Washington just after midnight on Thursday. He held a campaign rally in New Mexico on Monday night, then spent Tuesday and Wednesday in California, where he held fundraisers that garnered a total of $15 million.
Trump described the fundraisers as “very successful” on the trip back. He had events in the Bay Area, Los Angeles and San Diego, and finished the visit to California with a stop at the border with Mexico.
