SwiftKey, the popular app that creates custom keyboards has decided to conduct a massive analysis process on its American users. It was more likely an emojinalysis actually, because it has led to the map of The United States of Emoji.
Emojis are now embedded into our daily routine, because these adorable little symbols can express our thoughts much better than words sometimes. We started using them as different kinds of emoticons, a term that only describes the smiley face family included in ancient platforms such as Yahoo Messenger that are now cyber history.
The emoticons have stuck around though, but the emojis have come to actually redefine our written communication habits. They are so useful and accessible, that people are now actually capable of having entire conversations based on emojis only, a process that might prove to be quite the adventure to figure out if you’re not an emoji master.
However, most people still alternate plain old fashioned text with the adorable emojis. And according to SwiftKey’s research, every American state seems to have a predilection for one specific emoji, that people use particularly frequently.
And as you can see in the picture above, SwiftKey has actually transformed these emoji preference patterns into an actual map for The United States of Emoji.
While some patterns make perfect sense, such as the use for the surfer emoji among Hawaiians and the use of the cactus emoji among Arizonians, it will be absolutely hilarious to find out why Washington D.C. residents prefer to use the snowman emoji, while Alaskans are crazy about the caterpillar emoji.
‘We dug back into the SwiftKey Cloud vaults and analyzed more than a billion (aggregate) emoji to learn how people in each US state use emoji.’ explain SwiftKey representatives.
They expect people will find it extremely interesting to find out whether or not they are in line with their state’s preferences, but also to compare and contrast their state’s no. 1 emoji to that of other states.
However, this United States of Emoji map should not be taken all that seriously and people should have fun with it. Vermont residents are probably going to have quite a hard time doing this, since SwiftKey’s research revealed that their favorite emoji is the poop one. It goes without saying that they have quite some explaining to do.
