You wake up every morning and the first thing that pops into your mind is that steaming cup of delicious coffee that will give you the energy you so desperately need to wake up. Well, science has just managed to ruin that for you, despite their best intentions.
It seems perfectly reasonable that coffee would prove to be extremely helpful when drunk immediately after you wake up, since you feel drained of all energy at that point and coffee is that magical liquor that gives you that amazing buzz.
Unfortunately, it seems that your body just isn’t wired that way and completely sabotages the powers of coffee at that particular moment.
And it manages to do so through a hormone that is especially designed to help you cope with stressful situations. Therefore, it is naturally released in the morning, because nature seems to know that mornings are particularly stressing. Moreover, its levels appear to peak between 8 AM and 9 AM.
Again, it may seem absolutely logical that nature’s helping hand and coffee should go perfectly well together and completely abolish that awful early morning sensation. As you might have personally experienced, it is not always the case.
And this is because coffee and cortisol, the “stress hormone”, in fact do not go well together at all. This is why, scientists advise that you do not drink coffee in this timeline.
You might see a loophole in the fact that you might not be walking into the kitchen looking for the coffee pot at precisely 8 AM. Well, you should know that there is no escape from Mother Nature’s will. Cortisol has been proven to be released immediately after you wake up, no matter the hour you wake up at, aside from its peak times.
Granted, only about half of that high 8 AM amount is released the moment you wake up, but it still has the capacity of lowering the effects of coffee. And so, scientist advise that you wait about one hour before you award yourself with a nice cup of joe.
Furthermore, there are more peak levels for cortisol release between 12 and 1 PM and between 5:30 and 6:30 PM. And there go the chances of those who thought they were safer just because they wake up late.
Not to mention that amazing afternoon cup of coffee that has just lost half of its powers, curtsey of Mother Nature and her pesky cortisol.
As previously stated, scientists really do have the best of intentions in telling you this. With a little bit of self disciple, you can benefit from all that coffee truly has to offer. All you have to do is have patience in the morning and wait one hour before enjoying your coffee, because it’s going to be so much better!
