A recent shooting between a suspect and the New York Police Department officers left the suspect dead at about 6 a.m. on Tuesday, the 26th of May. The man was armed and fired at the officers, which prompted them to open fire upon him as well.
According to the authorities, the gunman, who was 51 years old, was the main suspect in another murder that he might have committed a few hours before. At about 2:20 a.m., the gunman spotted his former girlfriend outside the Resorts World Casino. Patricia Mohammed, who was 55 years old was sitting in a car with another man, aged 51 in front of the casino on Rockaway Avenue in South Ozone Park Queens.
The gunman then pulled his weapon and started firing towards the two. During the shootout, he managed to strike Patricia Mohammed more than once. The man that was accompanying her managed to survive and steer clear of bullets, even if he was chased by the suspect.
The people working in the casino reported they had no idea what was going on outside until witnesses came in from the street and gave an account of the shootings that were taking place.
According to Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce, the man fled the scene of the murder and after a few minutes, he started sending threatening messages to his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend, in which he called himself “the Grim Reaper”. He also called her family, telling them that he was not about to surrender easily.
The police caught sight of him a few hours later, not far from the intersection of Stanley Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue. The officials tried to make an arrest but the man allegedly started firing at them. They immediately shot back and managed to put him down with several bullets.
His state was severe, so he was taken to the Brookdale University Hospital, where he was reported dead, not long after he arrived.
The police are now investigating the scenes trying to establish if the 380 caliber semiautomatic gun that was in the man’s possession is a match to the bullets fired outside the casino.
The dead suspect had also been involved in an armed robbery before, which got him an arrest record in the past.
