David Hogg, the high school shooting survivor and gun control advocate, announced to the media that he has been accepted to Harvard University. The recent high school graduate announced acceptance to the prestigious university in Cambridge, Massachusetts on Twitter this past Saturday. Hogg said he plans to major in political science.
The young man has been one of the most prominent voices seeking gun control measures after the shooting. Authorities say that a former student killed 17 people at the Parkland, Florida high school.
Hogg has garnered more than 900,000 Twitter followers and has used his social media platform to have influence in the gun control debate. His tweet about his Harvard plans earned more than 162,000 “likes” within about eight hours. He wrote: “Thank you all for the well wishes, I’ll be attending Harvard in the fall with a planned major in Political Science.”

Fox News Channel host Laura Ingraham received significant criticism earlier this year after she mocked Hogg in a tweet, saying he “whined” about being rejected by some colleges. Ingraham later apologized.
