Thanks to this type of input, players are able to skip controllers and use their own moves to participate in a game. The device uses a webcam-style peripheral that records gestures and oral commands in real time. Once thought revolutionary, the Kinect production was shut down.
The Kinect Sensors Will Be Able to Create a Connection with Future Platforms as Well
Alex Kipman is the mind behind Kinect and announced that Microsoft is no longer producing the motion sensor. The product appeared in 2010 and took the tech world by storm. It was specially tailored for Xbox 360 initially.
Console users will still be able to take advantage of this device. However, there will be no new products on the market anymore. Therefore, once retailers deplete their stock, there will be no new offer of such a motion sensor.
On the other hand, there are already tens of millions of people who take full advantage of this type of technology. Owners are able to connect the device to a wide range of platforms such as Windows 10, Cortana, Xbox One, and Windows Mixed Reality. On top of that, the concept is so rooted in modern trends that it will surely work with future systems as well.
The Kinect Production Was Shut Down in Favor of Cortana and Windows Hello
The reasoning behind such a project desertion might be the lack of balance between creative efforts and demand. The company did claim after it abandoned Kinect gestures on the Xbox One in 2015 that the investment in such a cutting-edge technology didn’t find an equal response in the number of clients.
Therefore, the tech giant redirected its assets towards more traditional projects leading to the end of further Kinect production. Projects higher on the list of priorities were Windows Hello and Cortana.
In its early days, Kinect received great appreciation. This concept had its mentions on prestigious shows such as Oprah, The Late Night Show with Jimmy Fallon or Ellen. However, users started to perceive some upsetting problems. For instance, Kinect didn’t offer consistency when players replicated certain moves. Over the seven years of its existence, the tech fell slowing into oblivion.
