Things probably won’t be getting better between the United States and Mexico. Left-wing presidential candidate and known Trump critic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, won Mexico’s presidential election on Sunday.
The Associated Press tweeted the following information about the critical election on Sunday night.

Obrador is the former mayor of Mexico City and has run for president twice before. He has been a loud critic of President Trump and wrote a book titled: “Oye, Trump” (“Listen Up, Trump”). It lashes out at the U.S. president’s plans to build a wall along the U.S. southern border.
López Obrador kept up his antagonism against Trump on Wednesday telling his supporters at a rally that Mexico “will never be the piñata of any foreign government.”
His victory comes as U.S.-Mexican relations have declined under the Trump administration.
Trump has a history of criticizing America’s southern neighbor ever since his announcement to run for president in 2015. He said that Mexico was sending rapists, drugs and crime across the U.S. border.
The president has also continually said Mexico would pay for the U.S. border wall despite President Enrique Peña Nieto repeatedly saying his country would never pay for the structure.
Trump has also furthered economic tensions with Mexico, threatening to terminate the North American Free Trade Agreement and creating steep tariffs on imports of steel, aluminum and other products from the country.
It remains to be seen how all of this tense history will affect the future under Mexico’s new left-wing president. Obrador certainly has made his position on Trump clear, so the tension most certainly will rise even more.
