Jessica Alba, the famous 34-years old actress and businesswoman, owner of The Honest Company, which is known for creating products that are 100 percent organic, made of natural ingredients, is now facing serious accusations.
The good reputation of her brand is being stained, after many users have complained that the The Honest Company’s sunscreen lotion has left their skin burnt, in spite of the fact that it was labeled SPF 30.
Organic products have become very popular lately and a lot of people are willing to pay good money to benefit from the effects of an all-natural sunblock cream that promises both nourishment and protection for their skin.
However, it seems that The Honest Company was not so honest after all. Many people took photos of their red, sun burnt skin that was supposed to be protected by the Honest Sunscreen Lotion and posted them on various social media websites. Their comments and reviews on retailer websites such as Amazon were not very mild either. In fact, some of them consider the lotion to be worse than the cheapest non-organic product that you can find in the supermarket.
While the company initially denied these accusations, saying that the lotion works perfectly fine if applied correctly and that there is nothing wrong with its ingredients, these complaints have not ceased to appear.
Jessica Alba herself decided to respond to them, saying that the company is “taking every precaution to ensure that your product experience will keep you healthy and happy” because “protecting our loved ones is the reason we founded [Honest].” These statements were written on her Instagram page on Tuesday, the 3rd of August.
Christopher Gavigan, the co-founder of “Honest” Company also commented on the accusations and said that the company will do everything in their power to address complaints and offer assistance where needed. An official statement from the company was also issued, saying that formal testing for the product had been conducted by an independent 3rd party but that the process was in accordance to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s rigors.
The Honest Company’s brand image has definitely been deteriorated by this incident and it will probably be a quite some time before people can forget this scandal and fully trust Jessica Alba’s company again.
