President Trump may be second-guessing his nomination of Justice Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. The president has reportedly voiced complaints in recent days about his high court choice.
Administration officials familiar with the issue told The Washington Post that Trump was upset with Gorsuch for being too liberal in several recent cases. The president apparently feared that the justice was not a reliable conservative.
This report of Trump’s frustration comes just two days after Gorsuch cast the deciding vote in an immigration deportation case. He sided with the court’s four liberal justices and against the Trump administration. Not long after the court’s decision, Trump challenged Congress to pass stricter immigration laws.
Previously President Trump has called his nomination of Gorsuch one of his major successes as president. He may get another opportunity to nominate a Supreme Court Justice very soon. Republican lawmakers have predicted that Justice Anthony Kennedy, 81, will announce his retirement this summer.
