Duolingo has gained worldwide popularity thanks to its user-friendly platform for learning languages. Users are encouraged every day to take up new courses or exercise their knowledge thanks to a smart gamification system. The app has an internal currency, called the lingot, which learners can earn by completing new levels and other such activities. The platform has just released a new extension today entitled Duolingo Language Clubs. The appeal behind this new feature comes from the general idea that a group study is more fun when you try to learn a new language.
Luis von Ahn, the CEO at Duolingo, stated that the hardest part about getting familiar with a foreign language is remaining motivated. Now that the users can share the same goal with their friends and family, the learning process has just become easier. The CEO believes that learners will complete their goals at a faster pace thanks to the motivation they get from their beloved.
Luis von Ahn thinks that turning Duolingo into a new social concept was a natural evolutionary path for his project. Learning languages is at its basis a social experience where people are communicating their knowledge and thoughts in a precise system of sounds imbued with cultural meaning. For the moment, the only languages that support the new feature are Spanish, English, Portuguese, German, Italian, French, Russian, Dutch, Ukrainian, Hungarian, Turkish, Romanian, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Indonesian, Greek, Czech, Polish, Hindi, and Thai. There are going to be more additions to this list in time. The platform actually hosts step by step teaching courses for a total of 23 languages.
If you want to unlock the learning power of a group study with your friends, you are going to need to download the app first. The Duolingo software is compatible with Windows 8 and 10, Android, and iOS, and managed to grow and nurture a community of around 120 million users.
The group study feature comes just in time to face the new wave of New Year resolutions. Last year, most people wished to master a new foreign language according to Google search inquiries. Online users searched for methods of learning a new language in the fastest possible manner more times than the searches for fitness goals.
