Greg Orman, a businessman based in Kansas is fighting for the US Senate this year. However, if he manages to win the election, he would be thanking his campaign donor which incidentally would be Greg Orman himself.
He is fighting as an independent candidate against Republican Senator Pat Roberts. He has put in around $1.21 million for the campaign until September 30th. He also put in another $400,000 of his money on October 16th in the campaign.
His opponent Roberts is trying to make Greg’s wealth an issue and raised this issue during a candidate debate earlier this month. Robert while raising the pitch of the debate pointed that he admired Greg Orman for accumulating much wealth.
It is though not as if Greg is funding his election campaign entirely on his own. His other donors include Tim Penny, a former Democratic congressman and Glenn Fuhrman of MSD Capital.
The fight is evenly poised between Greg Orman and Pat Roberts as there is no Democratic candidate in this senate race. A Hedge Fund company founder, James Simons also gave $2,600 to Greg Orman on October 16th. James has been donating regularly to political candidates and has contributed over $12 million to Democratic candidates in 2012 and 2014 elections. Perhaps, this time around he decided to give some to Greg Orman as no candidate from Democrats has stood up for the elections.
David Stern, the former NBA commissioner who has donated to Obama and Hillary Clinton in the past is also funding the election campaign of Greg Orman, this time around.
