World Health Officials have pointed that a Cuban doctor suffering from Ebola will be flown to Switzerland for further treatment. The doctor was on duty in Sierra Leone and has contacted the deadly virus.
Cuba’s Health Ministry has released a statement according to which Dr. Felix Baez, a specialist in internal medicine had tested positive for Ebola this Monday. A team of British Health Officials at Kerry Town, an Ebola Treatment Center in Freetown has been caring for the patient.
As there is minimal improvement in condition of the patient, the WHO officials have decided to shift the Doctor to Geneva for better treatment.
His condition has been described as stable by Cuban officials. Dr. Felix is expected to arrive at Geneva University Hospital by Thursday and will be treated for Ebola. Noticeably, Cuba is one of the countries which have send around 256 medical staff to counter the outbreak of Ebola in three affected countries of Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. 165 of these doctors have been serving in Sierra Leone while 53 and 38 respectively are serving in Liberia and Guinea.
Health officials dealing with Ebola patients have been dying in large numbers and this is a cause of concern. According to figures released by World Health Organization (WHO), 584 health care workers have been infected with Ebola. 329 of these health professionals have so far succumbed to the deadly viral disease.
Recently another health care professional had died in Cuba as he was not flown for specialized treatment.
