Health workers have arrived in Liberia on Saturday to run a new Ebola clinic. China has pledged $41 million to run this clinic and it will be run by Chinese people. Interestingly, China is the biggest trade partner in West Africa.
However, it had adopted a cautionary approach towards the Ebola outbreak and did not contribute towards Ebola cure in these countries. Lately, it realized its folly and has been trying to make up for the delay. This funding in Liberia can now be seen in this light only. China has also said that it will soon be sending 1,000 health workers to fight the menace of Ebola in this region.
Chinese ambassador in Liberia Zhang Yue told reporters that China has played a significant role in controlling Ebola in Liberia. It is not only funding the construction of Ebola Treatment Unit in Liberia but will also ensure that Chinese staff operates it to the utmost of their competence.
Noticeably, United States is the only country in the world which has contributed the maximum towards control of Ebola in West Africa. China does not wish to seen lagging on this front and has been contributing towards controlling Ebola in Liberia.
The team of health professionals who arrived in Liberia include doctors, nurses and engineers and will remain posted in Liberia until the Ebola spread is countered completely. China has contributed up to $122 million for Ebola control in Liberia.
Cuba is the other country which has contributed the maximum in terms of medical facility for Ebola control in the region.
