Just recently, Elon Musk revealed a look at the first car elevator from the Boring Company.
In December of 2016, the Boring Company unveiled a revolutionary project called the car elevator. The name “car elevator” might conjure up ideas of vehicles scaling buildings or parking on high floors. But that isn’t quite the case. The concept is actually an underground tunnel system that would transport vehicles via an elevator to a high-speed railway. These cars would then be propelled from point A to point B.
The First Car Elevator from the Boring Company Aims to Increase The Efficiency of Travel
The Boring Company is an infrastructure and transportation company founded by Elon Musk in 2016. He is the visionary co-founder of Tesla, SpaceX, and several other investment properties. Musk has always kept his business ventures aimed at propelling commerce toward the future, and the car elevator is no exception.
Yet, is it really original? Musk might have gotten the idea from Singapore’s sky garage which was reported by CNN in 2015. The sky garage uses an elevator to park cars on highrise buildings, but the car elevator is much more ambitious.
This summer, Elon Musk unveiled a working prototype for his company’s first car elevator. A video posted to the entrepreneur’s Twitter account already has more than six hundred thousand views.
It’s an interesting project because the car elevator could reduce the number of cars on the road and make intercontinental travel much more enjoyable. Imagine pulling up to a car elevator in Miami, descending underground in minutes and winding up in California hours later without having to expend your fuel.
A project of this magnitude would involve federal municipalities. Musk is already in talks with government officials in New York, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C. While we still might be years away from an underground railroad, the Boring Company is certainly moving forward with the first car elevator.
